About Me
I like good food. I like it a lot. I like to make it, eat it, and talk about it. I also like budget-friendly ingredients. Most of the things I make don’t take a long time to prepare, they are easy and delicious, and they’re good to your wallet. They’re also pretty healthy (most of the time).
Our lives revolve around food, so why not make it good? I first got into food when I worked in a restaurant called “The Brickerton Grille” in Columbus, Mississippi. They had the best tuna steak I have ever (to this date anyways) put my mouth on. It was there that I lost my hatred of mushrooms. And I started to really pay attention to the ingredients that were flying around my head. It sadly closed not too long after, and my next restaurant job proved to be even more inspiring. Pat, the head chef, was like a wily old dad-figure. He brewed his own beer and wine, and he always called me over to look at what he was working on.
During grad school, I really got into cooking for the relaxing effect. It puts me into a state of zen, just focusing on the ingredients and the art of it all. Now that I’ve been teaching for awhile, I like to go to the gym (only so I can eat good food and drink good beer) and then stop by the Publix on the way home. They have weekly specials, and there’s a little card I can swipe that gives my school money. And they have great organics.
I also like the South. There’s no place like it. Being Southern has also proven interesting to my love of food. You can bet your bottom dollar that you will find my Southern-inspired fall-backs on here from time to time.
